WRFFWThe Woodford Reserve Distillery in Kentucky, has announced the launch of latest release in its innovative Distillery Series.

Woodford Reserve Frosty Four Wood (45.2% ABV) is a unique batching of mature Woodford Reserve bourbon, aged in American Oak and finished in barrels made from maple wood, sherry wood and port wood.

Commenting on the new release, Chris Morris, said: “Frosty Four Wood is the last of a historic whiskey specialty, as the original Four Wood was the first of its kind to touch four different barrels. It represents a rare moment that extends beyond bourbon and amplifies current flavours found in Woodford Reserve.”
Developed by Master Distiller Chris Morris, the Distillery Series which launched in 2015 with the Double Double Oaked and Sweet Mash Redux expressions, is said to showcase Woodford Reserve’s continued commitment to providing an unmatched whiskey experience and leading the spirits industry through innovation and craftsmanship.

The original Four Wood whiskey, in the 2012 Master’s Collection, was exposed to record-low temperatures during the 2013 Polar Vortex, resulting in flocking, or mineral precipitation. Filtration techniques produced a more fruit-forward whiskey with maple hints.

Woodford Reserve Frosty Four Wood, is now available from the distillery and specialist retailers for a RRP of $49.99 for a 375ml bottle.

Benromach 35yoThe Benromach Distillery Company, has today announced the launch of one of their rarest expressions to date.

Benromach 35 Years Old (43% ABV) was crafted and laid down to mature at the distillery in the 1980’s, before the Urquhart family, owners of leading whisky specialist Gordon & MacPhail, revived it in 1998.

Handcrafted using the finest natural ingredients at the Forres distillery, and created under the watchful eye of former Distillery Manager Donald MacDonald, this latest rare release is said to exude the heritage of the Speyside distillery.

Delivering notes of orange marmalade, kiwi, grapefruit aromas and cinnamon spice to the nose and notes of honey, fruitcake, ripe banana and melon to the palate, Benromach 35 Year Old, comes packaged in a bespoke decanter that is encased within a wooden presentation box, reflecting the various elements which have gone into making the whisky; the copper stills, the dark, grained wood of the original washbacks and the white of the limewashed distillery walls.

Commenting on the release, Keith Cruickshank, Benromach Distillery Manager, said: “Benromach 35 Year Old is a very special whisky for everyone at the distillery, as very few casks of Benromach remain from this time period. Benromach today is created respecting the traditional working practices of yesteryear and is lovingly handcrafted by sight, by sound, and by touch, using the finest natural ingredients. The 35 Year Old is the perfect dram to toast the past, present and future of Benromach.”

Originally built in 1898, Benromach Distillery was brought back to life when leading whisky specialists Gordon & MacPhail purchased it in 1993. The distillery was extensively re-equipped over a five-year period before it was officially opened by HRH Prince Charles in 1998.

In reopening Benromach Distillery, Gordon & MacPhail decided to create a classic Speyside single malt, a style that draws its influence from Speyside whiskies pre-1960s.

Benromach 35 Year Old, will be available later this month from specialist retailers for a RRP of £425.00.

Talisker Neist Point (45.8% ABV) is the latest creation from the distillery’s Malt Master, Craig Wilson, and is said to showcase a wider range of Talisker characteristics rather than any single aspect of the whisky.

This latest release is said to deliver notes of freshly baked sourdough bread, ripe red fruits, honey, creamy toffee, peat, wood smoke and sulphurous spent match on the nose, followed by notes of home-made potato chips cooked in beef dripping, South American chocolate laced with chilli, redcurrants, tannins and tarragon on the palate.

Commenting on the launch, Craig Wilson, Talisker Malt Master, said:“Using casks from a wide variety of different wood type and ages, I’ve captured the differing flavour profiles of Talisker, incorporating fiery, spicy and sweeter vanilla notes. By using some of our finest, rare casks that have been left to rest longer, Talisker Neist Point delivers an incomparable flavour journey with an extra-refined, sweet, smoky, finish that engulfs the palate, wave after wave. “
