Whisky world on the rocks as blend beats malts to best nip

Posted by RJS on December 18th, 2006

Coldparr.jpgonnoisseurs of the water of life may need a stiff drink: the prestigious title of the world’s best whisky has been won by a blend.

Old Parr Superior 18 Years is the first blend to have been judged ahead of more distinguished malts.
It sells for less than £20 a bottle online and is almost exclusively exported to the Far East.

Another Diageo blend, White Horse 12 Years Old, also picked up the Scotch Blended Whisky of the Year (8-12yrs).
Old Parr Superior, which is bottled by MacDonald Greenlees Distillers, Edinburgh, beat more than 3,600 drams.

Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible - the world’s best-selling and most influential whisky guide - has a devoted international following.
But the author warned that Scotch drinkers were being sold short.

Review - Talisker Distillers Edition

Posted by RJS on September 13th, 2006

Whisky: Talisker Distillers Edition
Age: 13 year old

Talisker whisky has a very unique flavour. When you see it in a glass you will realise that it is different. The colour is dark amber and the nose is slightly smoky.

Put it to your lips and sip and immediately you will be struck by a slightly sweet taste. There is a lovely warm sensation as it goes down and then a smoky peppery aftertaste. I find it difficult to describe really so would recommend you try it for your self!

This whisky has definitely got what I would describe as a full flavour and has quite a kick to it. With an alcohol content of 45.8% you need to treat it with respect!
